Lake Geauga Training Committee

The Lake Geauga Training Committee was founded in 1984 by a group of professionals throughout Lake and Geauga Counties who worked with adolescent substance abuse problems. The group formed to be able to provide those interacting with youth and opportunity to learn about substance abuse in our youth and ways to help prevent further problems. The group focused their efforts toward teachers throughout both counties and over the years has trained well over 2000 teachers.

The group has a number of workshop designs and has modified them to provide high quality training at a low cost. The group is also available to train in group facilitation skills for professional's in the mental health, substance abuse and educational field.

The last few years the Lake Geauga Training Committee has developed a workshop design that can fit into most educational and professional's busy schedules. The "Education Ensemble" is a collection of three hour workshops offered over a period of three days. Participants can choose one, two or have the option to attend all three days. Cost varies upon the number of workshops they participate in. The Committee searches for the best in our area on a variety of topics that cover the entire arena of adolescent issues.

This program is an alternative to spending three days of incarceration for a DUI offense. The program runs from Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. till Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. Participants gain information and insight on their judgment in driving situations as well as focusing on their own personal responsibility with drinking and driving.

Participants will be educated on a variety of subjects which include:

Cost is $295. We accept Medicaid & are involved in Ohio Homefront, www.homefront.ohio.gov. If individuals are active duty soldiers or families of deployed soldiers there is a discount of 5%. See their website for additional information.

Family Program

The Family Treatment Program offers family members and significant others an opportunity to learn the disease concept of codependency as it relates to the disease of addiction. Education and group activities are designed to promote insight into the negative emotional impact on both the user, and the family and significant others in the progression of addiction.

Group education and experiential opportunities are geared to enhance participants awareness and internalization of family disease concept and encourage involvement in a personal recovery process. Group focus will involve personal identification of "enabling" and controlling codependent behavior. Participants will develop skills for effective constructive personal and family recovery.

Interventions: An intervention will bring together family members, and others who are concerned about a loved ones alcohol and/or drug use. The goal is to bring to light and to break through the users denial of destructive behavior.

Because interventions can be a complicated and sensitive process, family members should not try it on their own. Contact the Lake-Geauga Center for professional help.
