MISSION STATEMENT

The Mental Health Association in Geauga County's mission is to promote services and programs that are responsive to the mental health and chemical dependency needs of the citizens of Geauga County.

In furtherance of this purpose, we shall:

  • Provide individual and group educational opportunities.
  • Research, evaluate and disseminate relevant information.
  • Increase awareness of mental health and chemical dependency causes and issues.
  • Address public perceptions of mental health and chemical dependency.
  • Support and facilitate the programs, activities and services of public and private providers.
  • Foster public visibility of the Association as well as other community agencies.

PROGRAMS

Facilitator The Facilitator is a mental health newsletter delivered free to Geauga County subscribers. The Facilitator focuses on local mental health trends, agencies and available services, programs and resources in our area.
Panorama This newsletter is produced collaboratively with the Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services. It covers national trends and issues in mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention. It also provides information about local events such as Red Ribbon Week and Kidsfest. Sign up today to receive your free copies twice a year.
ParenTalk ParenTalk is a newsletter issued to all first time parents in Geauga County. Issued bimonthly, this newsletter covers topics according to the birth and developmental stage of the child. To receive this free newsletter contact MHA to be added to our mailing list.
This workshop was initially started by a grant from the Sihler Mental Health Foundation is offered to the local area professional community and other interested individuals. Our Workshop Series provides professionals with current information on such issues as: bullying, coexisting disorders, suicide and homicide risk assessment, domestic violence, and handling anger. Look for our upcoming workshop information.

The Mental Health Association in Geauga County and Ravenwood Mental Health Center are collaborating in the leadership role of the Suicide Prevention Coalition. The focus of the Suicide Coalition is to educate the public about suicide prevention and inform the community about help that is available. Please join us in getting the message out.

Teddy Bear Patrol The Teddy Bear Patrol provides bears to firemen, sheriffs, police, EMT's and other emergency workers to children in Geauga County who have been potentially involved in a traumatic situation. The bears help to comfort victims or witnesses of accidents or crimes. If you would like to help us provide teddy bear patrol bears or sponsor a bear contact the Mental Health Association in Geauga County. Sponsor a bear for $15 each.
NAMI Geauga NAMI Geauga - the National Alliance on Mental Illness is a grassroots, non-profit education, support, and advocacy organization of families, friends, consumers and professionals dedicated to improving the quality of life for all whose lives are affected by mental illness.
Very Important Kid Program The Very Important Kid Program - currently helps to support the development of self-esteem of children in Geauga County preschool classrooms. VIK offers teachers a variety of activities and lesson plans to reinforce the message that each child is special and unique. VIK is provided free to all Geauga County preschools through a grant from the Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services. The VIK program is also available to preschools and Day Care centers in other counties. If you would like to have your child's preschool participate in this self-esteem building program, encourage them to contact us at (440)285-3945.

The Mental Health Association provides services to over 8,000 citizens in Geauga County. We have come to rely upon the help and generosity of friends like you.
